I've done plenty of malware scans and pretty sure it's not a virus, but no idea if this is a software or hardware problem. It's all got so bad now that I often struggle to get Windows to boot. This is really strange as it was a cold English day, with lots of ventilation. Not sure if this is related, but on two occasions, the PC didn't boot and gave me an error saying CPU temperature was too high. The problem doesn't go away when I plug in different speakers.Ħ. The audio is often choppy and cuts in and out, sometimes with popping/crackling noises (it sounds like an old cassette tape). Windows ALWAYS boots fine in Safe Mode.ĥ. I can sometimes use Task Manager to quit and relaunch Explorer.exe, which gets Windows to appear, but a lot of stuff hasn't loaded. Sometimes the cursor can be moved, sometimes not. Windows often boots very slowly and only a black screen and cursor appear.
Windows usually never completes shutting down and I have to manually reset.Ĥ. Most other programs (even big programs like Photoshop) seem totally unaffected.ģ. This only seems to affect internet-connected programs. After the computer has been on a few hours, certain programs stop responding, or won't launch, even if I close them task in Task Manager and restart them. I know my connection is solid, and I use ethernet, not WiFi.Ģ. The web often stops responding for a few minutes, and sites tell me I'm not connected. It's slowly got worse, to the point where I am now lucky if I can get Windows to boot.ġ. But about a year ago I started having the below symptoms.
